One or Two Midrange Speaker(s) are Inoperative

Where you sent here from the Audio Diagnostic System Check?

Are both of the front midrange speakers inoperative?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the inoperative speaker connector.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the resistance across the speaker from terminal D to terminal E.

Is the resistance between the specified values?

3-6ohms

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 12

  1. Disconnect the radio connector C1.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the resistance at the inoperative speaker connector from terminal D to ground.

Is the measured resistance to ground infinite?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Using a DMM, measure the resistance at the speaker connector from terminal E to ground.

Is the measured resistance to ground infinite?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 7

Repair a short to ground in the speaker feed CKT 200 or CKT 201 (see schematic) depending on which side was tested.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Radio/Audio System

Repair a short to ground in the speaker return for CKT 117 or CKT 118 (see schematic) depending on which side was tested.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Radio/Audio System

Check for continuity in the speaker feed circuit:

    • (Left side) Using a DMM, check for continuity between the radio connector C1 terminal 2 and the LH front speaker connector terminal D.
    • (Right side) Using a DMM, check for continuity between the radio connector C1 terminal 4 and the RH front speaker connector terminal D.

Is continuity present between these terminals?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 10

Check for continuity in the speaker return circuit:

    • (Left side) Using a DMM, check for continuity between the radio connector C1 terminal 1 and the LH front speaker connector terminal E.
    • (Right side) Using a DMM, check for continuity between the radio connector C1 terminal 3 and the RH front speaker connector terminal E.

Is continuity present between these terminals?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 11

    • (Right side) Repair the open in CKT 200.
    • (Left side) Repair the open in CKT 201.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Radio/Audio System

    • (Right side) Repair the open in CKT 117.
    • (Left side) Repair the open in CKT 118.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Radio/Audio System

Replace the inoperative speaker.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the radio.
