Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 33432-A Transverse Leaf Spring Compressor and Adapters J 33432-97


    Object Number: 200316  Size: SH

    Important: During this procedure, use care not to scratch the rear transverse spring.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Measure the transverse spring stud height (1).

  4. Object Number: 65323  Size: SH
  5. Install J 33432-A and adapters J 33432-97 onto the rear transverse spring, and compress the spring.

  6. Object Number: 65327  Size: SH
  7. Remove the nuts and, bolts (2) and insulators and retaining the spring (1) to the lower control arms.

  8. Object Number: 65323  Size: SH
  9. Remove the rear spring retainer bolts, retainer, spring spacers and insulators from the crossmember.
  10. Remove the rear transverse spring from the vehicle.
  11. If the transverse spring is to be replaced, release and remove J 33432-A and adapters J 33432-97 from the spring.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 65323  Size: SH
  1. If the transverse spring is a replacement, install J 33432-A and J 33432-97 onto the transverse spring and compress the spring.
  2. Install the rear transverse spring onto the vehicle.
  3. Install the rear spring spacers and retainer to the crossmember.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the rear spring anchor plate bolts to 65 N·m (49 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Position the transverse spring (1) into the lower control arms and install the spring bolts (2), insulators and nuts .
  6. Release and remove J 33432-A and J 33432-97 from spring.

  7. Object Number: 200316  Size: SH
  8. Set the transverse spring stud height (1) to the height measured during removal.
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
