Creak from Steering Wheel

Problem

Creak when turning the steering wheel.

Possible Cause

The steering wheel surround tabs are moving on the steering wheel hub.

Correction

  1. Remove the drivers inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  2. Spread the surround tabs and remove the surround from the hub.
  3. Lubricate the steering wheel hub where the tabs make contact with a petroleum free lubricant.
  4. Reinstall the surround and the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

Rattle from Center of Instrument Panel

Problem

Rattle from the center of the instrument panel (I/P).

Possible Cause

The I/P pad attaching screws at the center defroster vent are loose.

Correction

  1. Road test while applying pressure to the vent area of the I/P pad and listen for the noise to stop.
  2. Remove the center defroster vent and tighten the I/P pad attachment screws.
  3. Reinstall the defroster vent.

Rustle from Instrument Panel

Problem

Rustle sound, the sound of rushing water, from the instrument panel (I/P).

Possible Cause

The fuel lines under the hood are contacting the bottom of the plenum panel.

Correction

  1. Open the hood with the engine running.
  2. Apply pressure to the fuel lines at the plenum panel and listen for noise.
  3. Insulate the fuel lines from the plenum panel with closed cell tape.

Buzz from Sunshade

Problem

Buzz from the sunshade.

Possible Cause

The sunshade mirror light lens is loose.

Correction

  1. Road test while applying pressure to the lens to stop the noise.
  2. Remove the lens.
  3. Place a small piece of foam in the lens opening.
  4. Reinstall the lens.

Rattle from Sunshade


Object Number: 180486  Size: SH

Problem

Rattle from the sunshade in the up position.

Possible Cause

The roof latch handle is on a angle allowing contact with the sunshade.

Correction

  1. Road test, reposition the sunshade and listen for the noise to stop
  2. Check the latch handle and the mirror cover for signs of contact.
  3. Adjust the latch handle to be parallel to the striker. Be sure to retain the same locking pressure.

Rattle from Sunshade

Problem

Rattle from the sunshade.

Possible Cause

The sunshade is vibrating on its pivot rod.

Correction

  1. Road test, apply pressure to the sunshade and listen for noise to change.
  2. Replace the sunshade.
