Bang from Rear of Vehicle

Problem

Bang or hard rattle from the rear of the vehicle on bumps.

Possible Cause

The rear lift window panel (hatch) is bouncing in the rear latches.

Correction

  1. Road test the vehicle and listen for noise.
  2. Adjust the rear tension bumpers to increase the pressure on the hatch.
  3. It may be necessary to adjust the hatch latches lower to maintain the proper flushness to the adjoining panels when raising the tension bumpers.

Buzz from Rear Carpet Panel


Object Number: 180568  Size: SH

Problem

Buzz from the rear of the vehicle while being driven.

Possible Cause

The outer edges of the rear center carpet panel backing are vibrating against the rear body panel.

Correction

  1. Open the lift window panel and tap on the ends of the rear center carpet panel.
  2. Add foam tape to the body panel where the carpet panel backing contacts the body.

Chatter from Rear Axle

Problem

Chatter from the rear of the vehicle on tight turns.

Possible Cause

Low axle fluid level.

Condition

  1. Road test the vehicle making slow speed tight turns.
  2. Check the axle fluid level and add as necessary.

Slap from Parking Brake Cable


Object Number: 180566  Size: SH

Problem

Slap or rattle from the rear of the vehicle on bumps.

Possible Cause

The parking brake cable(s) is/are hitting the rear compartment floor, or the frame rail, outboard of the retaining clamp

Correction

  1. Road test and listen for the sound and/or raise the vehicle and tap on the cables.
  2. Install foam tape to the floor or the frame rail at the point of cable contact.

Squeak or Itch from Rear Corner of Body


Object Number: 180559  Size: SH

Problem

Squeak or itch from the rear of the vehicle.

Possible Cause

The rear body panel bond, in the area of the rear lift window panel tension bumper, rubs the underside of the rear compartment opening surround panel.

Correction

  1. Open the rear lift window panel and apply pressure to the side of the surround and listen for a chirp sound.
  2. Add epoxy adhesive in the area of the hatch surround below the tension bumper to securely bond the underside of the rear corner of the surround to the rear body panel.
