Chatter from Under Vehicle

Problem

Chatter from under the rear of the vehicle on tight turns.

Possible Cause

The axle is low on fluid.

Correction

  1. Road test the vehicle making slow speed tight turns and listen for chatter.
  2. Check the axle fluid level and add fluid as necessary to fill to the proper level.

Rolling Sound from Under Vehicle


Object Number: 180571  Size: SH

Problem

Rolling sound from under the vehicle when performing abrupt driving maneuvers.

Possible Cause

There is a portion of a replaced rivet net or other metal object in a frame rail.

Correction

  1. Raise the vehicle and hit the frame rails with a metal hammer while listening for a jingle.
  2. Securely attach a magnet to a wire.
  3. Insert the magnet on a wire through a tie down slot or other opening and remove object from the frame.

Slap from Under Rear of Vehicle


Object Number: 180566  Size: SH

Problem

Slap or rattle from under the rear of the vehicle when driving over bumps in the road.

Possible Cause

The parking brake cable(s) is/are hitting the rear compartment floor or frame rail outboard of the retaining clip.

Correction

  1. Road test over bumps and/or raise the vehicle and tap on the cables and listen for slap sound.
  2. Install foam tape to the floor or frame rail at the point of the cable contact.
