- Remove the J 35944-A
fill cap.
- Fill with 0.6 liters (20-21 ounces) of the J 35944-22
.
• | Follow the manufacturer's suggested procedures for handling the
flushing solution. |
- Replace the J 35944-A
fill cap.
- Pressurize the J 35944-A
to 550-700 kPa (80-100 psi).
- Install the J 35944-A
to the vehicle undercarriage with the hook provided.
- Attach the flushing tool hose to the transmission oil cooler (TOC)
rear upper pipe (cooler return) at the transmission.
- Attach the discharge hose to the TOC rear lower pipe (cooler feed)
at the transmission.
Clip the opposite end of the discharge hose to an oil drain container.
- Turn the J 35944-A
water valve to OFF.
- Attach a water supply to the J 35944-A
.
- Turn ON the water supply at the faucet.
Important: IF the water does not flow through the cooler in the following step,
the system is completely plugged, DO NOT complete the flushing procedure.
Turn OFF the water immediately and inspect the cooler and the upper and lower
cooler pipes for restrictions. Repair or replace components as needed.
- Flush the transmission fluid.
Turn the J 35944-A
water
valve to ON for about 10 seconds.
- Turn the J 35944-A
water valve to OFF.
- Clip the discharge hose to a 5-gallon pail.
Cover the pail with a shop cloth to prevent splash.
- Turn the J 35944-A
water valve to ON and depress the J 35944-A
trigger in order to mix the flushing fluid into the water
flow.
Use a bale clip to hold the trigger down.
- Flush the TOC with water and fluid for 2 minutes.
Every 15-20 seconds during the flushing procedure, attach
the air supply to the air valve on J 35944-A
and leave in place for 3-5 seconds at a time.
This will create a surging action for complete cleaning.
- Release the trigger and turn the water valve on the J 35944-A
OFF.
- Disconnect the discharge the hose from the TOC rear lower pipe.
- Disconnect the J 35944-A
hose from the TOC rear upper pipe.
- Reverse the hose connections at the TOC rear pipes.
Reversing the hose connections creates a backflush.
- Repeat steps 14 and 15.
- Release the trigger and allow water only to rinse the TOC for
1 minute.
- Turn the water valve on the J 35944-A
OFF.
- Turn OFF the water supply at the faucet.
- Attach the air supply to the air valve on the J 35944-A
and dry out the system until NO moisture
is seen leaving the discharge hose.
- Disconnect the J 35944-A
hose and the discharge hose from the TOC rear pipes.
- Connect the TOC rear lower pipe (cooler feed) to the transmission
fitting.
- Attach the discharge hose to the TOC rear upper pipe (cooler return).
Clip the opposite end of the discharge hose to an oil drain container.
- Start and run the engine for 30 seconds to remove any residual
moisture from the TOC.
28.1. | Inspect the fluid flow through the cooler lines during the 30 second
running period. |
Specification
Minimum flow 1.8 liters (2 quarts)
28.2. | IF the fluid flow is insufficient, disconnect the TOC front lower
pipe (cooler feed) from the TOC and observe the flow with the engine running
at idle. |
• | If the fluid flow is still insufficient; inspect the transmission
for causes. |
• | If the fluid flow is sufficient; inspect the TOC pipes, hoses
and fittings and repeat the TOC flushing procedure. |
• | If the fluid flow is still insufficient after repeating the flushing
procedure, replace the TOC. |
- Disconnect the discharge hose.
- Connect the TOC rear upper pipe to the transmission fitting.
- Fill the transmission fluid to the proper level. Refer to
Automatic Transmission Fluid Level Check/Fill
.
