Subject: Inability To Program Tire Pressure Sensors

Models:1997-2004 Chevrolet Corvette

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Tire Pressure Monitor System sensors may be difficult to program after tire or senor replacement. Further, the technician may not be able to enter the "Tire Training" mode using DIC buttons. The DIC will display the "Learn LEFT FRONT Tire" message, but does not learn the left front tire. The horn does not chirp and the DIC does not change display to "Learn RIGHT FRONT Tire". After approximately 2 minutes the DIC display goes blank. The 2001-2004 Corvettes uses a different RFA system consisting of a new keyfob transmitters, tire pressure transmitters & a new receiver. The 2001-2004 system is NOT compatible with 2000 or prior model years.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Verify the following....

  1. Verify that all tires are Goodyear Eagle F1 "EMT" tires.
  2. Verify that the wheels on the vehicle are the original / same year vintage.
  3. If using a known good vehicle for diagnosis on a 2001-2004 model, be sure the known good vehicle is a 2001-2004 model also.

Note: The 2000 model and prior sensor are larger and heavier than the 2001-2004 model year sensor. The 2000 and prior sensor will fit on the 2001-2004 model year wheels but will not function properly.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
