Engine Replacement Rear Mounted EBTCM/BPMV

Removal Procedure

Notice:

The steps in the following procedure are in a specific order. Follow these steps in this order and do not ignore any details or vehicle damage may occur.

Tools Required

    •  J 33432-A Transverse Leaf Spring Compressor
    • J 25034-C Pump Pulley Remover
    • J 25033-C Pump Pulley Installer
    •  J 42188 Ball Joint Separator
    •  J 39580 Engine Support Table
    •  J 39580-500 Engine Support Table Top
    • J 41798 Engine Lifting Brackets
    •  J 42203 Driveline Support
    • J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge
    • J 36221 Hydraulic Clutch Line Separator

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Recover the air conditioning system refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in HVAC.

  7. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor (IAT) connector.
  8. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAS) sensor connector.

  9. Object Number: 179304  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator purge tube from the air intake duct.
  11. Reposition the air intake duct and the air cleaner assembly forward.
  12. Remove the upper radiator support .
  13. Remove the top radiator hose.
  14. Remove the radiator.

  16. Remove the accessory drive belt (5).
  17. Important: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when separating fuel system components this prevents fuel, dirt and other contaminants from entering the fuel system.

  18. Remove the left fuel line from the connector at front of the dash.
  19. Remove the engine beauty covers.
  20. Relieve the fuel system pressure using the J 34730-1A .

  22. Disconnect the fuel lines (3 and 4) at the fuel rail.
  23. Important: Cap the hoses and inlets when separating the cooling system components, this prevents dirt and other contaminants from entering the cooling system.

  24. Disconnect the radiator hoses from the water coolant pump.

  26. Disconnect the heater hoses from the water coolant pump.

  28. Disconnect the following electrical connectors from the top of the engine:
  29. 20.1. Fuel injectors
    20.2. Ignition coil main harness connectors
    20.3. Evaporative emission (EVAP) solenoid
    20.4. Electric throttle motor
    20.5. Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
    20.6. Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
    20.7. Air conditioning compressor

  30. Disconnect the generator electrical connectors.

  31. Object Number: 74067  Size: SH
  32. Remove the generator mounting bolts.
  33. Remove the generator.
  34. Remove the generator mounting bracket bolt and bracket.

  36. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the brake booster.

  37. Object Number: 187354  Size: SH
  38. Remove the intermediate shaft to steering gear bolt.
  39. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear and position it to the left onto the frame rail.

  41. Disconnect the air injection reaction (AIR) hose from the left exhaust manifold.
  42. Important: Do not remove the engine flywheel housing to driveline support assembly bolts until it is called out in the procedure.

  43. Raise the vehicle.
  44. Remove both of the front tire and wheel assemblies.
  45. Disconnect and unclip the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) connectors from the intermediate exhaust pipes.
  46. Remove the intermediate exhaust pipes. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  48. Remove the close-out panel bolts.
  49. Remove the close-out panel.

  50. Object Number: 74061  Size: SH
  51. Remove the positive cables from the starter.
  52. Remove the (S) cable from the starter.

  54. Remove the starter bolts.
  55. Remove the starter from the vehicle.
  56. Remove all ground wires from the right side and rear of the engine block.

  58. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  59. Disconnect the crank position sensor electrical connector.
  60. Disconnect the right heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.

  62. Remove the air conditioning (AC) compressor hose assembly retaining bolt.
  63. Remove the air conditioning compressor hose assembly from the AC compressor.

  64. Object Number: 188207  Size: SH
  65. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector.
  66. Disconnect the left HO2S electrical connector.
  67. Disconnect all ground wires from the left side of the engine block.

  69. Remove the front stabilizer bar bolts and straps.
  70. Remove the front stabilizer bar nuts from the lower control arms.
  71. Remove the front stabilizer bar from the vehicle.

  73. Disconnect the electrical connectors and harness from the electric cooling fans.

  74. Object Number: 179296  Size: SH
  75. Remove the electric cooling fan assembly by sliding the whole unit upwards.

  76. Object Number: 65337  Size: SH
  77. Install J 33432-A to the front spring.
  78. Compress the front spring using theJ 33432-A .

  79. Object Number: 82236  Size: SH
  80. Remove the tie rod end nuts (3).
  81. Remove the tie rod ends (5) from steering knuckles (4) using J 42188 .
  82. Disconnect the antilock brake system (ABS) electrical connectors at the cradle (if equipped).
  83. Disconnect the electronic variable orifice control (EVO) connector at the cradle.
  84. Disconnect the real time damping (RTD) connectors at the cradle (if equipped).

  86. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolts.

  87. Object Number: 65337  Size: SH
  88. Remove the front transverse leaf spring using J 33432-A. Refer to Front Transverse Spring Replacement in Front Suspension.

  90. Disconnect the automatic transmission cooler lines at the engine flywheel housing junction (if equipped).

  92. Disconnect the automatic transmission cooler lines from the radiator (if equipped).

  94. With automatic transmission vehicles, use the following steps:
  95. 64.1. Remove the two plug bolts in the driveline support assembly.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

            Important: Failure to use the minimum fastener length specified will prevent proper retention of the propeller shaft during disassembly.

    64.2. Install a M10.0-1.5 x 55 mm or longer in each plug location.

    Tighten
    Tighten the M10 bearing support bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  96. With automatic transmission vehicles, remove the engine flywheel housing access plug.

  97. Object Number: 173641  Size: SH
  98. Orientate the automatic transmission flywheel hub collar to access the bolt (1).
  99. Position the collar bolt facing downward.
  100. Loosen the automatic transmission flywheel hub collar bolt (1).
  101. Unclip the wiring harness from engine and reposition it to the driveline.

    Important: The weight of the engine should never be supported by J 42203.

  103. Install J 42203 to the close-out panel flange.

  104. Object Number: 71472  Size: SH
  105. Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission need to:
  106. 71.1. Unclip the clutch actuator hose from the engine flywheel housing clip.
    71.2. Using J 36221 , depress the white circular release ring on the actuator hose and simultaneously pull lightly on the master cylinder hose to disconnect.
    71.3. Protect both ends from dirt and damage.
    71.4. Remove the engine flywheel housing bolts from the driveline support assembly.

    Important: The weight of the engine should never be supported by J 42203.

  107. Install J 42203 to the close-out panel flange.
  108. Slowly lower the vehicle to the J 39580 and J 39580-500 .
  109. Support the engine and cradle assembly on J 39580 and J 39580-500 .
  110. BY HAND, remove the front and rear cradle nuts.
  111. Partially raise the vehicle.
  112. Remove the AIR tube bracket bolt and reposition the tube bracket to gain access to the left rear ground strap.
  113. Remove the ground strap from the rear of left cylinder head.

  115. Disconnect the following electrical connectors from the back of the engine:
  116. 79.1. Engine oil pressure sensor
    79.2. Camshaft position sensor
    79.3. Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor
    79.4. Knock sensor wire harness connector
    79.5. All remaining electrical connections

  117. Remove the front driveline support assembly bolts from the driveline.

    Important: Visually inspect the wiring harness detachment from the engine.

  119. Insert a flat bladed screwdriver, or similar tool, between the edge of driveline support assembly and the engine flywheel housing, then pry the engine loose from the driveline.
  120. Important: During this procedure take extra care in making sure that the radiator is not damaged.

  121. Slowly pull the engine away from the propeller shaft.
  122. As soon as the propeller input shaft clears the engine flywheel housing, slowly raise the vehicle.
  123. Slide the engine and cradle assembly forward in order to clear the propeller shaft spline.
  124. Important: Visually inspect the wiring harness clearances while raising the vehicle.

  125. Raise the vehicle completely off of the engine and cradle assembly.

    Important: It is not necessary to open the power steering system during the engine removal procedure.

  127. Remove the power steering pump pulley using J 25034-C .
  128. Remove the power steering pump bolts.
  129. Remove the power steering pump and reservoir from the engine and reposition them to the cradle.
  130. Remove the air conditioning (AC) compressor belt.
  131. Remove the air conditioning compressor bolts and nut.
  132. Remove the air conditioning compressor stud and compressor from the engine.

  133. Remove the air conditioning compressor bracket bolt and bracket.
  134. Remove the AIR tube mounting bolts and tube from the exhaust manifolds.
  135. Install J 41798 to the engine.
  136. Install a lifting device to the engine.
  137. Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  138. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder heads.

  139. Object Number: 188236  Size: SH
  140. Remove the engine mount to cradle nuts.
  141. Remove the engine from the cradle.
  142. Install the engine onto an engine stand and remove the J 41798 .
  143. Prepare the engine for disassembly. Refer to Engine Balancing .

Installation Procedure

Notice:

The steps in the following procedure are in a specific order. Follow these steps in this order and ignore no details or vehicle damage could occur.

  1. Prepare the engine for installation. Refer to Engine Prelubing and Engine Balancing

  2. Object Number: 188236  Size: SH
  3. Install J 41798 to the engine.
  4. Install a lifting device to the engine.
  5. Install the engine to the cradle.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the cradle nuts to the engine mount.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the engine mount nuts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  9. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder heads.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the spark plugs to 15 N·m(11 lb ft).

  11. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
  12. Install the AIR pipe and mounting bolts to the exhaust manifolds.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the AIR pipe to 20 N·m(15 lb ft).

  14. Install the AC compressor bracket and bolt to the engine.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the AC compressor bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  16. Install the AC compressor mounting stud to the engine.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the AC compressor mounting stud to 9 N·m (80 in ft).

  18. Install the AC compressor to the AC bracket. Refer to Compressor Replacement in HVAC.
  19. Install the AC compressor belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  20. Install the PS pump and reservoir to the engine.
  21. Install the PS pump mounting bolts.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the PS pump mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  23. Install the PS pump pulley to the pump using J 25033-C .

  24. Object Number: 74067  Size: SH
  25. From the new engine remove the generator mounting bolts.
  26. Remove the generator.
  27. Remove the generator mounting bracket bolt and bracket.
  28. Roll the engine and cradle assembly underneath the vehicle.
  29. Partially lower the vehicle to the engine and cradle assembly.
  30. Install the ground strap to the rear of the left cylinder head.
  31. Install the AIR tube bracket bolt and the bracket.

  33. Route the electrical harnesses and connect the following electrical connectors at the rear of the engine:
  34. 23.1. Engine oil pressure sensor
    23.2. Camshaft position sensor
    23.3. MAP sensor
    23.4. Knock sensor wire harness connector
    23.5. All remaining electrical connections at the rear of the engine

  35. Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, slide the engine and cradle assembly rearward. Do not force the engine onto the propeller spline.
  36. Position the engine to the proper height and angle in order to install the propeller input shaft.
  37. Insert the propeller input shaft into the clutch driven plate hub while maintaining the proper angle, Do Not force. Rotate the shaft slightly to bring the two splines into alignment, if necessary.

  38. Object Number: 180740  Size: SH
  39. Slowly seat the engine flywheel housing to the driveline.
  40. Install the front driveline support bolts.
  41. Tighten
    Tighten the engine flywheel housing to the driveline support assembly bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  42. Clip the clutch actuator hose to the engine flywheel housing clip.
  43. Connect the master cylinder hose to the clutch acuator hose.

  44. Object Number: 71466  Size: SH

    Important: Do not tighten the flywheel hub collar bolt at this time.

  45. Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, slide the engine and cradle assembly rearward. Do not force the engine onto the propeller spline.
  46. Position the engine to the proper height and angle in order to install the propeller input shaft.
  47. Install the front driveline support bolts.
  48. Tighten
    Tighten the engine flywheel housing to the driveline support assembly bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  49. Hand tighten the flywheel hub collar bolt.
  50. Install the AIR tube bracket and mounting bolts to the left cylinder head.
  51. Tighten
    Tighten the AIR tube to 50 N·m(37 lb ft).

  52. Lower the vehicle onto the cradle and align the dowels.
  53. Important: Use only hand tools when tightening or torquing cradle nuts.

  54. By HAND, install new cradle nuts.
  55. Tighten
    Tighten the cradle nuts to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  56. Raise the vehicle.
  57. Clip the wiring harness to the rear of the engine.
  58. Remove J 42203 from the vehicle.

  60. Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the previously installed M10-1.5 x 55mm bolts from the front of the driveline support assembly.
  61. Install two plugs in the driveline support assembly.
  62. Tighten
    Tighten the plugs to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  63. Connect the automatic transmission cooler lines at the engine flywheel housing junction (if equipped).
  64. Tighten
    Tighten the automatic transmission cooler lines to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  65. Install the lower control arm to the vehicle. Do not torque to specification as a wheel alignment is needed.

  66. Object Number: 65337  Size: SH
  67. Install the front transverse leaf spring. Refer to Front Transverse Spring Replacement in Front Suspension.

  68. Object Number: 65333  Size: SH
  69. Connect the lower ball joint studs to the steering knuckles.
  70. Tighten
    Tighten the lower ball joint nuts to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).


    Object Number: 65335  Size: SH
  71. Install the shock absorber lower mounting bolts.
  72. Tighten
    Tighten the shock absorber lower mounting bolts to 220 N·m (162 lb ft).


    Object Number: 82236  Size: SH
  73. Install the tie rod ends (5) to the steering knuckles (4).
  74. Tighten
    Tighten the tie rod end nuts (3) to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  75. Install the ABS electrical connectors to the cradle.
  76. Install the EVO electrical connector to the cradle.
  77. Install RTD electrical connectors at the cradle (if equipped).

  79. Remove J 33432-A from the spring.

  80. Object Number: 179296  Size: SH
  81. Install the electric cooling fan assembly to the radiator by sliding the whole unit into the slots provided.

  83. Connect the electrical connectors and harness to the electric cooling fans.

  84. Object Number: 179305  Size: SH
  85. Install the front stabilizer bar to the lower control arm.
  86. Install the front stabilizer mounting bolts and straps.
  87. Tighten
    Tighten the front stabilizer mounting bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  88. Install the ground wires to the left side of the engine block.

  89. Object Number: 188207  Size: SH
  90. Connect the left front HO2S sensor connector.
  91. Connect the engine oil temperature sensor connector.

  92. Object Number: 82082  Size: SH
  93. Install the AC compressor hose assembly to the compressor.
  94. Install the AC compressor line retaining bolt.
  95. Tighten
    Tighten the AC compressor hose mounting bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).


    Object Number: 187369  Size: SH
  96. Connect the right front HO2S sensor connector.
  97. Connect the crank position sensor connector.
  98. Connect the oil level sensor connector.
  99. Install the ground wires to the right side of the engine block.

  100. Object Number: 74063  Size: SH
  101. Install the starter.
  102. Install the starter mounting bolts.
  103. Tighten
    Tighten the starter mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 74061  Size: SH
  104. Connect the S terminal wire to the starter.
  105. Tighten
    Tighten S terminal wire nut to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  106. Connect the positive battery cables to the starter.
  107. Tighten
    Tighten positive battery cable nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  108. Install the driveline close-out panel.
  109. Install the driveline close-out panel bolts.
  110. Tighten
    Tighten the close-out panel bolts to 12 N·m (102 lb in).

  111. Install the intermediate exhaust pipe and hangers. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  112. Install the HO2S sensors and clip harness.
  113. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies.
  114. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).

  115. Lower the vehicle.

  117. Connect the automatic transmission cooler lines to the radiator (if equipped).
  118. Tighten
    Tighten the automatic transmission cooler lines to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).


    Object Number: 187406  Size: SH
  119. Connect the AIR hose to the left exhaust manifold.

  120. Object Number: 187354  Size: SH
  121. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear.
  122. Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt.
  123. Tighten
    Tighten the intermediate steering shaft bolt to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).


    Object Number: 63936  Size: SH
  124. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the brake booster.

  125. Object Number: 74067  Size: SH
  126. Install the generator mounting bracket.
  127. Install the generator mounting bracket bolt.
  128. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bracket bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  129. Install the generator.
  130. Install the generator mounting bolts.
  131. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  132. Connect the generator electrical connectors.
  133. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (10 lb ft).

  134. Connect the following electrical connectors from the top of the engine:
  135. 86.1. Fuel injectors
    86.2. Ignition coil main connectors
    86.3. EVAP solenoid
    86.4. Electric throttle motor
    86.5. Throttle position sensor
    86.6. ECT sensor
    86.7. AC compressor

  136. Connect the heater hoses to the water coolant pump.

  138. Connect the radiator hoses to the water coolant pump.

  140. Connect the fuel lines (3 and 4) at the fuel rail.

  142. Install the engine beauty covers.

  144. Install the generator accessory drive belt (5).
  145. Install the top radiator hose.
  146. Install the upper radiator support .
  147. Install the radiator.

  149. Reposition the air intake duct and the air cleaner assembly.
  150. Connect the fuel pressure regulator purge tube to the air intake duct.

  151. Object Number: 74086  Size: SH
  152. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
  153. Connect the MAF sensor connector.

  154. Object Number: 74059  Size: SH
  155. Connect the negative battery cable.
  156. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  157. Fill or top off the engine with oil.
  158. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  159. Recharge the AC system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in HVAC.
  160. Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry.

  161. Object Number: 173641  Size: SH
  162. With automatic transmission vehicles use the following steps:
  163. 104.1. Start the engine and warm to operating temperature.

    Idle or for at least 10 minutes.

    104.2. Shut off the engine.
    104.3. Allow engine to cool to room temperature.
    104.4. Raise the vehicle.
    104.5. Tighten the hub collar bolt (1).

    Tighten
    Tighten the flywheel hub collar bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

  164. Install the engine flywheel housing inspection plug.
  165. Check and fill the transmission.
  166. Check the engine for problems. Refer to Engine Set-Up and Testing .
  167. Perform a wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Installation Procedure

Notice:

The steps in the following procedure are in a specific order. Follow these steps in this order and ignore no details or vehicle damage could occur.

  1. Prepare the engine for installation. Refer to Engine Prelubing and Engine Balancing .

  2. Object Number: 188236  Size: SH
  3. Install J 41798 to the engine.
  4. Install a lifting device to the engine.
  5. Install the engine to the cradle.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   7. Install the cradle nuts to the engine mount.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the engine mount nuts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  9. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder heads. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .
  10. Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
  11. Install the AIR pipe and mounting bolts to the exhaust manifolds.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the AIR pipe to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  13. Install the AC compressor bracket and bolt to the engine.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the AC compressor bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  15. Install the AC compressor mounting stud to the engine.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the AC compressor mounting stud to 9 N·m (80 in ft).

  17. Install the AC compressor to the AC bracket. Refer to Compressor Replacement in HVAC.
  18. Install the AC compressor belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  19. Install the PS pump and reservoir to the engine.
  20. Install the PS pump mounting bolts.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the PS pump mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  22. Install the PS pump pulley to the pump using J 25033-C .

  24. From the new engine, remove the generator mounting bolts.
  25. Remove the generator.
  26. Remove the generator mounting bracket bolt and bracket.
  27. Roll the engine and cradle assembly underneath the vehicle.
  28. Partially lower the vehicle to the engine and cradle assembly.
  29. Install the ground strap to the rear of the left cylinder head.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the ground strap bolt to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

  31. Install the AIR tube bracket bolt and the bracket.

  33. Route the electrical harnesses and connect the following electrical connectors at the rear of the engine:
  34. 23.1. Engine oil pressure sensor
    23.2. Camshaft position sensor

  35. Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, slide the engine and cradle assembly rearward. Do not force the engine onto the propeller spline.
  36. Position the engine to the proper height and angle in order to install the propeller input shaft.
  37. Insert the propeller input shaft into the clutch driven plate hub while maintaining the proper angle, Do Not force. Rotate the shaft slightly to bring the two splines into alignment, if necessary.

  39. Slowly seat the engine flywheel housing to the driveline.
  40. Install the front driveline support bolts.
  41. Tighten
    Tighten the engine flywheel housing to the driveline support assembly bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  42. Clip the clutch actuator hose to the engine flywheel housing clip.
  43. Connect the master cylinder hose to the clutch acuator hose.

  44. Object Number: 71466  Size: SH

    Important: Do not tighten the flywheel hub collar bolt at this time.

  45. Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, slide the engine and cradle assembly rearward. Do not force the engine onto the propeller spline.
  46. Position the engine to the proper height and angle in order to install the propeller input shaft.
  47. Install the front driveline support bolts.
  48. Tighten
    Tighten the engine flywheel housing to the driveline support assembly bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  49. Hand tighten the flywheel hub collar bolt.
  50. Install the AIR tube bracket and mounting bolts to the left cylinder head.
  51. Tighten
    Tighten the AIR tube to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  52. Lower the vehicle onto the cradle and align the dowels.
  53. Important: Use only hand tools when tightening or torquing cradle nuts.

  54. By HAND, install new cradle nuts.
  55. Tighten
    Tighten the cradle nuts to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  56. Raise the vehicle.
  57. Clip the wiring harness to the rear of the engine.
  58. Remove J 42203 from the vehicle.

  60. Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the previously installed M10-1.5 x 55mm bolts from the front of the driveline support assembly.
  61. Install two plugs in the driveline support assembly.
  62. Tighten
    Tighten the plugs to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  63. Connect the automatic transmission cooler lines at the engine flywheel housing junction (if equipped).
  64. Tighten
    Tighten the automatic transmission cooler lines to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  163. With automatic transmission vehicles use the following steps:
  164. 104.1. Start the engine and warm to operating temperature.

    Idle or for at least 10 minutes.

    104.2. Shut off the engine.
    104.3. Allow engine to cool to room temperature.
    104.4. Raise the vehicle.
    104.5. Tighten the hub collar bolt (1).

    Tighten
    Tighten the flywheel hub collar bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

  165. Install the engine flywheel housing inspection plug.
  166. Check and fill the transmission.
  167. Check the engine for problems. Refer to Engine Set-Up and Testing .
  168. Perform a wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.
