Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge


    Object Number: 74075  Size: SH

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the left engine beauty cover.
  3. Depressurize the fuel system using J 34730-1A .

  5. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail.

  6. Object Number: 74065  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the generator and coolant temperature sensor electrical connectors.

  8. Object Number: 63936  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the brake booster hose from the brake booster.
  10. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the rocker arm cover.
  11. Disconnect the air injection reaction (AIR) hose from the check valve.

  12. Object Number: 74069  Size: SH
  13. Remove the spark plug wires from the coils.
  14. Disconnect the ignition coil main wire harness connector.

  15. Object Number: 65890  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the pipes from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) purge solenoid.
  17. Remove the EVAP purge solenoid from the intake.
  18. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal (Left Side) .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 65890  Size: SH
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation (Left Side) .
  2. Install the EVAP purge solenoid to the intake.
  3. Install the pipes to the EVAP purge solenoid.

  4. Object Number: 74069  Size: SH
  5. Install the spark plug wires to the coils.
  6. Connect the ignition coil main wire harness connector.

  7. Object Number: 63936  Size: SH
  8. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the brake booster.
  9. Connect the PCV hose to the rocker arm cover.
  10. Connect the AIR hose to the check valve.

  11. Object Number: 74065  Size: SH
  12. Connect the generator and coolant temperature sensor electrical connectors.
  13. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  14. Connect the fuel line to the fuel rail.

  15. Object Number: 74075  Size: SH
  16. Install the left engine beauty cover.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  19. Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the right engine beauty cover.

  3. Object Number: 363591  Size: SH
  4. Remove the air injection reaction (AIR) from the exhaust manifold using the following steps:
  5. • Remove the bolts.
    • Remove the pipe.
    • Remove the gasket.
  6. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hoses from the rocker arm cover.
  7. Disconnect the air injection reaction (AIR) hose from the check valve.

  9. Remove the spark plug wires from the coils.
  10. Disconnect the ignition coil main wire harness connector.

  11. Object Number: 260085  Size: SH
  12. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal (Right Side) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation (Right Side) .

  2. Object Number: 363591  Size: SH
  3. Install the spark plug wires to the coils.
  4. Connect the ignition coil main wire harness connector.
  5. Connect the PCV hose to the rocker arm cover.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the AIR pipe to the exhaust manifold using the following steps:
  8. • Install the gasket.
    • Install the pipe.
    • Install the bolts.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    • Connect the AIR hose to the check valve.
    • Connect the fuel line to the fuel rail.

  9. Install the engine beauty cover.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  12. Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry.
