In-Line Fuel Filter Replacement Auto Trans
Removal Procedure
Tool Required

Important:
• | There is no service interval for the fuel filter replacement.
Only replace a restricted fuel filter. |
• | Clean the fuel tanks if you find a restricted fuel filter. |
- Disconnect the negative
battery cable.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Clean all the fuel filter connections and the surrounding areas
before disconnecting the fuel pipes in order to avoid possible contamination
of the fuel system.
- Disconnect the stabilizer bar from the rear cradle.
- Remove the exhaust intermediate pipe to muffler bolts.
- Lower the left muffler.
- Remove the fuel filter bracket nut (2) from the mounting stud
(3).
- Disconnect the quick-connect
fittings (3 and 5) from the fuel filter. Refer to

or

.
- Cap the fuel pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
- Remove the fuel filter and the bracket.
- Remove the fuel filter from the bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the protective
caps from the new fuel filter.
- Install the fuel filter into the bracket.
- Remove the caps from the fuel pipes.
- Connect the quick-connect fittings (3 and 5) to the fuel filter.

- Install the fuel filter and the bracket (4) to the mounting stud.
- Engage the anti-rotation
tab (3) of the fuel filter bracket (2) into the hole of the tunnel reinforcement
(1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the fuel
filter bracket nut (2).
Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter bracket nut to 4.5 N·m (40 lb
in).
- Raise the left muffler.
- Install the exhaust intermediate pipe to muffler bolts.
- Install the stabilizer bar to the rear cradle.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Tighten the fuel filler cap.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Inspect for leaks.
14.1. | Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds. |
14.2. | Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds. |
14.3. | Turn the ignition switch ON. |
14.4. | Check for fuel leaks. |

- Cap the fuel pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
- Remove the fuel filter and the bracket.
- Remove the fuel filter from the bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the protective
caps from the new fuel filter.
- Install the new plastic connector retainers on the fuel filter
inlet and outlet tubes. Install the new retainers in the same positions as
on the old fuel filter.
- Install the fuel filter into the bracket.
- Remove the caps from the fuel pipes.
- Connect the quick-connect fittings (3 and 5) to the fuel filter.

- Install the fuel filter and the bracket (4) to the mounting stud.
