Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge
    • J 37088-A Tool Set, Fuel Line Quick Connect Separator

Notice: 

   • Do not repair the fuel feed or return pipes.
   • Replace the fuel feed and return pipes with original equipment or with parts that meet the GM specifications for those parts. The replacement pipe must have the same type of fittings as the original pipe in order to ensure the integrity of the connection.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the left fuel rail cover.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief .

  4. Object Number: 43537  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the fuel feed hose (3) from the chassis fuel feed pipe (2). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  6. Disconnect the fuel return hose (4) from the chassis fuel return pipe (1). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  7. Object Number: 43550  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the chassis fuel and EVAP pipe retainer (1) from the upper front of dash mounting stud (3).

  9. Object Number: 67889  Size: SH
  10. Raise the vehicle.
  11. Remove the exhaust intermediate pipe. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  12. Object Number: 67894  Size: SH
  13. Remove the driveline tunnel closeout panel. Refer to Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Reinforcement Replacement in Propeller Shaft.

  14. Object Number: 43558  Size: SH
  15. Disconnect the chassis fuel feed pipe (3) from the fuel filter. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service or Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  16. Cap the open end of the fuel filter (4).

  17. Object Number: 107566  Size: SH
  18. Disconnect the chassis fuel return pipe (7) from the fuel return rear pipe (2) near the fuel filter area. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service or Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  19. Cap the open end of the fuel return rear pipe (2).

  20. Object Number: 107568  Size: SH
  21. Disconnect the chassis EVAP pipe (1) at the rear EVAP pipe (2). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  22. Cap the rear EVAP pipe.

  23. Object Number: 43555  Size: SH
  24. Disconnect the chassis fuel and EVAP pipes from the underbody retainers.
  25. Remove the chassis fuel and EVAP pipes.

Installation Procedure

Important: 

   • Follow the same routing as the original pipes.
   • Secure the pipes in order to prevent chafing.
   • Do not kink or bend the pipes.

  1. Install the chassis fuel and EVAP pipes into the underbody retainers.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the fuel and EVAP pipe retainer nuts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  3. Uncap the rear EVAP pipe.
  4. Connect the chassis EVAP pipe (1) to the rear EVAP pipe (2). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  5. Object Number: 107566  Size: SH
  6. Uncap the fuel return rear pipe (2).
  7. Connect the chassis fuel return pipe (7) to the fuel return rear pipe (2) near the fuel filter area. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service or Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  8. Object Number: 43558  Size: SH
  9. Uncap the fuel filter outlet.
  10. Connect the chassis fuel feed pipe (3) to the fuel filter (4). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service or Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

  11. Object Number: 67894  Size: SH
  12. Install the driveline tunnel closeout panel. Refer to Floor Panel Tunnel Panel Reinforcement Replacement in Propeller Shaft.

  13. Object Number: 67889  Size: SH
  14. Install the exhaust intermediate pipe. Refer to Intermediate Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  15. Lower the vehicle.

  17. Connect the chassis fuel and EVAP pipe retainer (1) at the upper front of dash mounting stud (3).
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel and EVAP pipe retainer nut to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  19. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable.
  21. Inspect for leaks.
  22. 14.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    14.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    14.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    14.4. Check for fuel leaks.
  23. Perform the idle learn procedure. Refer to Idle Learn .
