A scan tool is a very useful tool and must be used when referred to throughout this section. In addition to displaying DTCs, the scan tool is capable of displaying input status and the data values the TPM system uses to perform certain functions. It is also capable of sending specific commands to other systems to determine if the malfunction is due to the TPM system not sending a proper command, or the system that received the command is not responding to the command. Using the left front tire pressure display as an example, if the IPC is displaying the left front tire pressure incorrectly. By selecting RFA left front tire pressure data with a scan tool, this determine if the receiver is actually reading the correct data from the sensor. If the TPM system is displaying the correct data value for the left front tire and the IPC is not, the problem could be with IPC not receiving and/or interpreting the proper information.
