Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement Front Mounted EBTCM/BPMV
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Drain the fluid from the rear axle differential. Refer to
Lubricant Change
.
- Release the transmission wiring harness retaining clip from the
stud on the differential rear cover.
- Clean away any dirt or debris from around the edge of the differential
rear cover.
- Remove the bolts and the stud retaining the differential rear
cover.
(Take note of the location of the stud.)
- Remove the differential rear cover from the differential.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal from the differential housing.
Installation Procedure
- Clean the O-ring sealing
surface on the differential rear cover and the differential housing.
- Install a new O-ring seal to the differential housing.
- Install the differential rear cover to the differential.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the differential rear cover retaining
bolts and retaining stud.
Tighten
Tighten the differential rear cover retaining bolts and stud to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Secure the transmission wiring harness retaining clip to the stud
on the differential rear cover.
- Fill the rear axle differential with the proper fluid and to the
proper level. Refer to
Lubricant Change
.
- Lower the vehicle.
