Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement - Off Vehicle Off Vehicle

1. Remove the upper and lower shrouds from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - Off Vehicle .
2. Remove the three wire harness straps (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly (1).



3. Pop the wire harness assembly (1) from the wire harness strap (2).



4. Remove the snap ring (2) using snap ring pliers.
5. Remove the SIR coil assembly (1).

1. To install the SIR coil assembly, center the following components:

•	Make sure the wheels are straight ahead.

•	Align the block tooth and the centering mark on the race and upper shaft assembly (1) at the 12 o'clock position.





Important:  Do not depress the tab (1) on the back of the SIR coil assembly.

2. if reusing the original SIR coil assembly, refer to Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle
3. A new SIR coil assembly will be precentered.
4. Pull the tab and remove.



5. Align the SIR coil assembly (1) with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
6. Slide the SIR coil assembly (1) onto the race and upper shaft assembly.




Important: Seat the snap ring (1) securely on the groove of the race and upper shaft assembly (2).

7. Install the snap ring (1) using snap ring pliers.



8. Route the lower SIR coil assembly wires along the steering column jacket assembly.



9. Pop the wire harness assembly (1) into the wire harness strap (2).



10. Install the wire harness straps (2) to the steering column assembly (1).
11. Install the upper and lower shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - Off Vehicle .
