Tilt Spring - Off Vehicle Off Vehicle

1. Remove the upper and lower shroud. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - Off Vehicle .



2. Use the tilt lever to tilt the column in the up position.



3. Perform the following steps to remove the tilt spring (1):

Caution
The tilt spring and the spring guide are under pressure and could become a projectile. During the disassembly and assembly procedures, secure the tilt spring using locking pliers. Exercise caution when removing or installing the tilt spring and the spring guide, as bodily injury may result.

3.1.	Pry the the tilt spring (1) up with a screwdriver until a bulge occurs.

3.2.	The spring tension is mostly removed.

3.3.	Secure the the tilt spring (1) with locking pliers.

3.4.	Continue to pry until the the tilt spring (1) disengages from the post on the steering column support assembly (2) and the steering column tilt head assembly (3).




4. Remove the spring guide (1) from the tilt spring (2).

1. Install the spring guide (1) to the tilt spring (2). Lubricate with synthetic grease (service kit).



2. Perform the following steps to install the tilt spring (1):

Caution
The tilt spring and the spring guide are under pressure and could become a projectile. During the disassembly and assembly procedures, secure the tilt spring using locking pliers. Exercise caution when removing or installing the tilt spring and the spring guide, as bodily injury may result.

2.1.	Install the tilt spring (1) to the post on the steering column support assembly (2).

2.2.	Secure the tilt spring (1) with locking pliers.

2.3.	With end of tilt spring (1) on the post, pull on the center of the tilt spring (1) while pushing the guide end to the post on the steering column tilt head assembly.

2.4.	With both ends installed to the post, push the tilt spring (1) into position.

3. Install the upper and lower shroud. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - Off Vehicle .
