  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  15. Reposition the accumulator slightly to access the accumulator hose to accumulator fitting.

  16. Object Number: 297225 Size: SH

Important: Prior to removal, take note of the accumulator orientation to the accumulator hose and the evaporator tube - rear.

  17. Using a back-up wrench on the accumulator fitting (2), loosen the accumulator hose fitting (1) from the accumulator.

  18. Object Number: 297300 Size: SH

Important: Cap or tape the open accumulator hose and the accumulator immediately.

  19. Disconnect the accumulator hose from the accumulator, discard the O-ring seal and cap or tape the accumulator hose and the accumulator to prevent contamination.

  20. Object Number: 296228 Size: SH
  21. Remove the accumulator from the vehicle.
  22. Loosen the accumulator bracket bolt.
  23. Remove the accumulator from the accumulator bracket.
  24. Inspect the accumulator bracket insulator and the accumulator lower insulator for wear or damage.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 296233 Size: SH
  1. Replace the accumulator bracket insulator, if necessary.
  2. Replace the accumulator lower insulator, if necessary:
  3. 2.1. Remove the paper backing from the lower insulator (1).
2.2. Position and install the insulator (1) to the bottom of the accumulator (2) as shown.
  4. Install the accumulator to the accumulator bracket.
  5. Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt just enough to provide some resistance in rotating the accumulator.

  6. Object Number: 297232 Size: SH
  7. Install the accumulator and bracket into position in the vehicle.
  8. Remove the cap or tape from the accumulator hose and the accumulator.
  9. Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing surfaces of the accumulator hose and the accumulator.
  10. Lightly coat the new O-ring seal (1) with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  11. Important: DO NOT allow any of the mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil on the O-ring seal to enter the refrigerant system.

  12. Carefully slide the new O-ring seal (1) onto the accumulator hose until seated.

  13. Object Number: 297300 Size: SH
  14. Install the accumulator hose to the accumulator.
  15. Orientate the accumulator to the accumulator hose and the evaporator tube - rear as noted prior to removal.

  16. Object Number: 297225 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  17. Using a back-up wrench on the accumulator fitting (2), secure the accumulator hose fitting (1) to the accumulator.
  18. Tighten
Tighten the accumulator hose fitting to the accumulator to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).
