Chime Description

The chime located in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) provide the driver with the following vehicle audio warning information:

    • Check gages
    • Fasten seat belts
    • Headlamp/Park lamp reminder
    • Key in ignition reminder
    • DIC Warning/status Message Display
    • Turn signal reminder
    • DIC Reset/Stop/Start Button Functions

The chime is integrated within the IPC and cannot be serviced separately. The IPC is capable of producing four chime rates, but can only produce one tone. The IPC utilizes a slow chime rate (60 per minute) for fasten seat belt and turn signal reminder, a medium chime rate (120 per minute) for key in ignition reminder and designated DIC warning/status messages, a fast chime rate (180 per minute) for headlamp/park lamp reminder and designated DIC warning/status messages, and a short duration chime rate (32 ms) for DIC reset/stop/start button functions. The IPC activates chime functions based on input information received either by components that are directly connected to the IPC, or by messages received on the serial data line. If the IPC receives a gauge value that is out of range, then the IPC may display a message and also a chime to indicate a malfunction.
