Clicking from Door Window
Problem
Clicking from the door window when the window is raised.
Possible Cause
The door window cables are contacting the window.
Correction
- Lower the door window and then raise the window and listen for
a clicking sound as the window nears the full up position.
- Remove the door trim panel. Refer to
Door Trim Panel Replacement
in Doors.
- Loosely tie strap the inner cable to the door inner panel using
the hole behind the lock control rods.
- Make sure the cables are also loosely tie strapped to each other.
- Reinstall the door trim panel. Refer to
Door Trim Panel Replacement
in Doors.
Clicking from Door Window
Problem
Clicking sound when the door window is raised or lowered.
Possible Cause
The cable attachment clip to the window shoe moves in its holder.
Correction
- Cycle the window and listen for the noise.
- Remove the door trim panel
- Remove the water deflector and radio speaker.
- Mark the location of the window and the window clamps with a grease
pencil.
- Remove the window and the window clamps from the regulator.
- Pack the cable to shoe attachment area (1) with a two part epoxy.
A mirror will aid in applying the epoxy.
- Allow the epoxy to cure before installing the window.
Rattle or Itch from top of Window
Problem
Rattle or itch from the top of the door window.
Possible Cause
Door window contacting the blow out clip.
Correction
- Road test with top and window up. Apply pressure to window to
eliminate noise.
- Adjust window tip-in to gain 3 mm (1/8 in) clearance
between the clip and the window.
- In some cases it may be necessary to bend the clip to gain clearance.
Rattle from Door
Problem
Rattle from the door with the window down.
Possible Cause
The door window cables are contacting the window.
Correction
- Close the door with the window down and listen for a rattle.
- Remove the door trim panel. Refer to
Door Trim Panel Replacement
in Doors.
- Loosely tie strap the inner cable to the door inner panel using
the hole behind the lock control rods.
- Make sure the cables are also loosely tie strapped to each other.
- Install the door trim panel. Refer to
Door Trim Panel Replacement
.
Rattle when Closing the Door
Problem
Rattle when door is closed with the window down.
Possible Cause
The door window contacts the regulator at the upper rear cable end.
- Remove the door trim panel and the water deflector.
- Clean the cable end (the green piece).
- Wrap a 15 mm (0.6 in) by 40 mm (1.6 in)
hook and loop insulator around the cable end.
- Install the door water deflector and trim panel.
Rattle from Door
Problem
Rattle from the passenger door with the passenger seat unoccupied.
Possible Cause
The seat belt is not fully retracted allowing the metal end of the belt
to rattle on the door sill.
Correction
- Road test for the noise and check to see if the seat belt is fully
retracted.
- Instruct the passenger to guide the seat belt into the retractor
when the belt is not in use.
Itch/Creak from Door Trim Panel
Problem
Itch or creak from the door trim panel with your arm on the arm rest.
Possible Cause
The energy absorber is not completely glued to the inside of the door
trim panel. Or the trim panel plastic fir tree clips are worn and are not
gripping tightly.
Correction
- Road test with your arm on the arm rest and listen for the itch/creak.
- Remove the door trim panel. Refer to

in Doors.
- Hot melt glue the energy absorber completely to the trim panel.
- Replace any worn fir tree fasteners and/or plastic grommets.
- Install the trim panel. Refer to
Door Trim Panel Replacement
in Doors.
Squeak from Door
Problem
Squeak when opening or closing the door.
Possible Cause
The door hinge roller lacks lubricant.
Correction
- Open and close the door and listen for the squeak.
- Lubricate the hinge roller with motor oil.
