Rattle from Front of Roof Panel-Coupe

Problem

Rattle from the front roof attachments.

Possible Cause

Latch striker out of adjustment.

Correction

  1. Road test on a rough road. Open the latch part way, which increases clamping on striker, eliminating the rattle.
  2. Adjust the striker angle downward to increase the clamping pressure that is applied when the latch is fully closed . The latch effort will also increase.

Itch or Rattle from Side of Roof

Problem

Itch or rattle from the door glass at the roof line.

Possible Cause

Door window contacting the blow out clip.

Correction

  1. Road test. Push on the door window to eliminate the noise.
  2. Adjust the door window tip in to gain a 3 mm (1/8 in) clearance between the clip and the window.
  3. In some cases it may be necessary to bend the window clip slightly to gain clearance to the window.

Rattle from Rear Side of Convertible Top

Problem

Rattle from the rear side of the roof.

Possible Cause

Flipper door is contacting the roof balance bar.

Correction

  1. Road test with the top up. Test by wedging an insulator between flipper door and roof bar to eliminate the noise.
  2. Wrap the balance bar, where the door rubs the bar, with the loop portion of hook and loop fastener material.

Creak from Side of Convertible Top

Problem

Creaking sound from the rear side of the convertible top with top up.

Possible Cause

Flipper door hinge creaking.

Correction

  1. Road test and listen for noise. Or open the flipper door and twist the door slightly and listen for creak.
  2. Lubricate the flipper door hinge with a non petroleum grease such as dry lube.

Itch From Number Five Bow Weatherstrip


Object Number: 384434  Size: SH

Problem

Itch from the number five bow weatherstrip when driving slowly on surface that twist the body.

Possible Cause

The number five bow weatherstrip is rubbing on the stowage lid protector.

Correction

    • Raise the number five bow and apply GM P/N 3634770 Goodwrench weatherstrip lubricate or GM P/N 12345579 dielectric silicone grease to the weatherstrip.
    • DO NOT use a petroleum based lubricant.
    • Apply GM P/N 3634770 Goodwrench weatherstrip lubricate or GM P/N 12345579 dielectric silicone grease to the weatherstrip during normal maintenance.

Bang from Rear of Roof Panel- Coupe


Object Number: 180552  Size: SH

Problem

A harsh bang or rattle from the rear of the roof lift off panel.

Possible Cause

There is not enough latch pressure being applied to the rear locator pins.

Correction

  1. Road test for the noise and/or grasp the roof panel and check for movement.
  2. Adjust the hook on the rear latch inward one turn at a time and retest.

Creak from Rear of Roof-Coupe


Object Number: 95581  Size: SH

Problem

Creak from the rear of the roof with the roof lift off panel installed.

Possible Cause

There is dirt accumulation in the locator sockets.

Correction

  1. Road test with the roof installed and listen for creak.
  2. Remove the roof and clean the locator sockets.
  3. Lubricate the sockets with a thin film of white lithium grease or petroleum jelly.

Creaking from Upper Side of Convertible Top


Object Number: 299061  Size: SH

Problem

Creaking from the convertible top near drivers or passengers head.

Possible Cause

Adjustment screw contacting the folding top rail.

Correction

  1. Road test and apply upward pressure to the top side rail to eliminate the noise.
  2. Open the top to expose the adjustment screw.
  3. Tighten the adjustment screw ¼ turn to eliminate contact with the rail.
