Itch or Creak from Rear of Vehicle -- Coupe
Problem
Itch or slight creaking sound from rear lift window striker.
Possible Cause
The rear lift window striker is moving on its mounting surface.
Correction
- Road test on a ramp or road that twists the body and listen for
the creak.
- Remove the striker from the rear lift window panel.
- Add a 15 mm (0.6 in) hook and loop patch between
the striker and the lift window panel.
- Install the striker.
Rattle from Lock Pillar
Problem
Rattle by the shoulder belt guide on lock pillar.
Possible Cause
Hook and loop insulators on the belt guide cover are missing allowing
the cover to contact the lock pillar trim.
- Check the underside of the guide cover for the loop insulators.
- Replace the two 12 mm (½ in)
loop tape insulators on the guide cover.
Rattle from the Front of the Convertible Top Stowage Lid
Problem
Stowage lid latch rattles on rough roads.
Possible Cause
Not enough pressure being applied to the stowage lid latch by the overslam
bumpers.
Condition
- Road test on a rough surface.
- Adjust the stowage lid overslam bumpers to properly positioning
the vertical height of the stowage lid front edge.
- lower the latch to increase the pressure on the overslam bumpers
as necessary.
Rattle From the Rear of the Convertible Top Stowage Lid
Problem
Rattle from the center of the rear of the folding top stowage lid.
Possible Cause
The stowage lid height setting bumper at the rear center of the stowage
lid is not contacting the lid with enough pressure.
Correction
- Road test on rough surface.
- Apply anti squeak tape to the underside of the lid in the bumper
contact area.
- LockTiteā¢ the bumper threads and/or add a jam nut to the
bumper.
- Adjust the bumper up to apply pressure to the stowage lid.
Rattle From Deck Lid -- Convertible
Problem
Rattle from the outboard forward edges of the rear compartment lid (deck
Lid).
Possible Cause
Deck lid bouncing on the hinge bumpers.
Correction
- Road test with the top down and listen for rattle.
- Adjust the hinge mounted bumpers to put slight pressure against
the closed lid.
Slap from Parking Brake Cable
Problem
Slap or rattle from the rear of the vehicle on bumps.
Possible Cause
The parking brake cable(s) is/are hitting the rear compartment floor,
or the frame rail, outboard of the retaining clamp
Correction
- Road test and listen for the sound and/or raise the vehicle and
tap on the cables.
- Install foam tape to the floor or the frame rail at the point
of cable contact.
Squeak or Itch from Rear Corner of Body
Problem
Squeak or itch from the rear of the vehicle.
Possible Cause
The rear body panel bond, in the area of the rear lift window panel
tension bumper, rubs the underside of the rear compartment opening surround
panel.
Correction
- Open the rear lift window panel and apply pressure to the side
of the surround and listen for a chirp sound.
- Add epoxy adhesive in the area of the hatch surround below the
tension bumper to securely bond the underside of the rear corner of the surround
to the rear body panel.
Tapping from Behind Drivers Seat
Problem
Tapping noise behind the drivers seat.
Posssible Cause
The fuel door manual release tab contacts the rear compartment acoustic
panel.
Correction
Add hook and loop tape or flocked tape to the bottom of the acoustic
panel in the area of contact.
