SOME CUSTOMERS MAY COMMENT ON A CLICKING/TICK TYPE NOISE COMING FROM THE FOLDING TOP ABOVE THE DRIVER/PASSENGER'S HEAD AT CERTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND/OR WIND CONDITIONS.
INSTALL 3M(R) SCOTCHMATE HOOK AND LOOP FASTENING SYSTEM (P/N 06480) OR EQUIVALENT, TO THE UNDERSIDE OF #2 AND #3 BOWS. INSTALLING THE LOOP SIDE OF THIS FASTENING SYSTEM BETWEEN THE BOW AND HEADLINER RETAINER WILL ACT AS AN INSULATOR TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION.
THIS PROCEDURE REQUIRES THE USE OF AN UPHOLSTERY TYPE OR AUTOMOTIVE TRIM STAPLER BY A TECHNICIAN KNOWLEDGEABLE IN WORKING WITH FOLDING TOP MATERIAL. IF YOU INTEND TO SUBLET VEHICLES REQUIRING THIS REPAIR TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTOMOTIVE TRIM SHOP, PLEASE SUPPLY THEM WITH A COPY OF THIS BULLETIN.
1. REMOVE THE HEADLINER FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURES IN THE SERVICE MANUAL.
2. SEPARATE THE TWO HALVES OF THE 3M(R) SCOTCHMATE HOOK AND LOOP, OR EQUIVALENT. DISCARD THE HOOK/ROUGH SIDE OF THE STRIP. INSTALL THE LOOP/SOFT SIDE STRIP TO THE UNDERSIDE OF #2 AND #3 BOWS. PLACE EACH STRIP TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT OF CENTER OF THE BOW OVER THE HEADLINER ATTACHMENT HOLES.
3. REINSTALL THE HEADLINER FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURES IN THE SERVICE MANUAL. INSTALL THE HEADLINER RETAINER SCREWS THROUGH THE LOOP/SOFT SIDE STRIP INTO THE #2 BOW AND #3 BOW AND TIGHTEN ALL SCREWS TO 2 N.M (17 LB IN).
