Did you perform the Audible Warnings Diagnostic System Check?

Turn ON the ignition.

Are any indicators/messages illuminated?

Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch off.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition.
  4. Open the driver's door.

Does the chime sound?

Go to Step 4

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Close the driver's door.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Key In Ignition parameter in the Body Control Module Input data list.

Does the Key In Ignition parameter display Inactive?

Go to Step 5

Test the ignition switch ground circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

  1. Remove the key from the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the BCM connector C2.
  3. Test the key in ignition signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is a short to ground present?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector C1.
  2. Test the key in ignition signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Test the key out of ignition signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the programming procedure for the BCM.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
