Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK or NEUTRAL position.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid switch.

Did the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool command the hatch release on.

Did the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 4

  1. With a scan tool observe the rear compartment lid release parameter in the body control module data list.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid switch.

Does the rear compartment lid release parameter change states?

Go to Step 13

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid switch and battery positive.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Step 6

Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid switch and the battery positive circuit of the rear compartment lid switch.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

  1. Disconnect the trunk release relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the trunk release relay and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the trunk release relay and the control circuit of the trunk release relay.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Momentarily connect a fused jumper across the switch side of the HTCHTRK REL relay fuse block.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid latch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper across the switch side of the HTCHTRK REL relay fuse block.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear compartment lid latch and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear compartment lid latch and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid latch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the control circuit of the htchtrk relay for an open or high resistance. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
