Start the engine.

Does the CHECK OIL LEVEL message display in the driver information center (DIC)?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Engine Oil Level Switch parameter in the engine control module (ECM) data lists.

Does the Engine Oil Level Switch parameter display OK?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the engine oil level switch.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Engine Oil Level Switch parameter.

Does the Engine Oil Level parameter display OK?

Test the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the engine oil level switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ECM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the engine oil level switch. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor and/or Switch Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 6.0L.
