Start the engine.

Does the OIL TEMP HIGH message display in the driver information center (DIC)?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Engine Oil Temperature Calculated parameter in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) engine control module (ECM) data list.

Does the Engine Oil Temperature Calculated parameter display a value within the specified range?

30°C-140°C (86°F-28°F)

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the engine oil temperature switch.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Engine Oil temperature Switch parameter in the IPC ECM data list.

Does the Engine Oil Level parameter display at or below the specified value?

30°C (86°F)

Test the signal circuit of the engine oil temperature switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the engine oil temperature switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the engine oil temperature switch. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor and/or Switch Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 6.0L.

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
