Condition

Some customers may comment that the key will not unlock the hatch when using the manual/key rear hatch unlock procedure.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the cable coming loose from the locking mechanism.

Correction

Reroute the cable.

  1. Remove the four plastic retaining hardware that holds the rear panel carpet trim in place.
  2. Remove the rear carpet trim.

  3. Object Number: 1581978  Size: SH
  4. Pull the additional cable into the vehicle through the rubber grommet and provide an approximate 3 inch (76.2 mm) loop.
  5. Reattach the cable to the lock mechanism.
  6. Place a piece of duct tape over the cable loop to hold it tight against the rear panel.
  7. Install the rear carpet trim.
  8. Install the four plastic retainers.
