Subject:Additional Diagnosis For Folding Top Inoperative

Models:2005 Chevrolet Corvette
With RPO (CM7)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Please review the following diagnosis when working with a Power Folding Top that's Inoperative or quits operating in mid travel.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. The first check is to monitor the Drivers Information Center (DIC) for any related messages (for the top) while depressing the folding top button in either direction. The top will not operate if the trunk is not fully closed and the trunk partition is not fully in place. If either switch is not fully activated, a message will be generated on the DIC. If there are no DIC messages, then it is safe to assume that the trunk partition is in place and the trunk is closed.
  2. If the power folding top quits in mid travel or will not fully open or close, check the 5th bow raised or lowered switch. After initial inspection, you may notice that the bi-metal tang of the 5th bow closed or open switch is broken off or is bent out of alignment.

This may be caused by a bent bracket that is part 5th bow closed or open switch. If you experience this concern, you should replace both switches to correct this condition.

Note: If the switch is on back order and you can find the bi-metal tang that was separated from the effected switch. Install the bi-metal tang back into place and put a dab of epoxy on the end where it hinges. This will hold it in place until a replacement part is received.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
