Subject:Applying Wax to New Painted Surfaces

2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette

This PI has been updated to revise that wax is not needed and to wash and dry the vehicle only. Please discard PIC4067.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Several dealers have inquired as to how soon customers can "wax" their new vehicles. The models listed above are painted with a two component Urethane clear coat. This finish cures very quickly and is considered to be 98% cured at the end of the assembly process.

Recommendation/Instructions:

With the current paint quality of today's vehicles, it is only advised to wash then dry the vehicle to maintain its appearance. If the customer or dealer would like to "wax" their vehicle, it can be done at the time of delivery. See the owner's manual for recommended types of wax and cleaners.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
