The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that Voice Recognition for the navigation radio inoperative. Some reports have shown terminal connections to be the cause of this concern.

Note: The microphone for the voice recognition is located in the left front "A"pillar and is shared with OnStar.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Remove the "A" pillar trim and inspect for terminal integrity at the microphone. Repair any damaged or loose terminals as necessary.
  2. Note: If the microphone is missing, please check RPO codes for U3U - Navigation Radio and/or UE1 - Onstar. If the vehicle does not have the RPO codes, the navigation radio was added after the vehicle was built and offers no provision to add the microphone.

  3. Remove the radio and verify that the C5 connection is fully seated into the radio. Also check for terminal integrity as necessary. Repair any damaged or loose terminals as necessary.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
