Subject: | Supplement to Bulletin 05-08-59-003E / Creak or Popping Noise from Roof Near Windshield/A Pillar |
Models: | 2005-2007 Chevrolet Corvette equipped with Lift Off Roof Only |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers/technicians may comment that a noise from the roof area is still present after bulletin 05-08-59-003E was completed. Engineering has discovered two new areas of noise that appear to be from the same area noted in bulletin 05-08-59-003E.
- The first area is from the header trim above the sun visor.
- The second area is the actual latch assembly that locks the removable roof to the vehicle.
Recommendation/Instructions:
- Remove the header trim. Along the header trim, there are three molded guides circled and called out as number 1 above. These guides aid in the installation of the trim molding at the assembly plant. Look for any witness marks on these guides. File
or sand the guide to prevent contact with the header.
- Remove the bolts that are called out above as 1 for each latch handle. These bolts secure the handle to the magnesium portion of the roof. Apply wheel bearing grease to the shoulder of each bolt. Reinstall the bolts and tighten to 18 N·m (13
lb ft). The torque spec was taken from SI document 1582355.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
