Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) grounds the trunk release control signal circuit based on trunk release switch signals from either the interior rear compartment lid release switch or the exterior rear compartment lid release switch. The rear compartment lid pull down actuator is supplied battery voltage at all times via the TRUNK RELEASE fuse. When either the interior or exterior rear compartment lid release switch is pressed, the trunk release switch signal circuit is grounded. This input will request the BCM to momentarily ground the trunk release control signal circuit, which will open the rear compartment lid. For more detailed information concerning trunk release operation refer to Luggage Compartment Description and Operation .

Conditions for Running the DTC

The rear compartment lid release is active.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The BCM detects a short to battery on the trunk release control signal circuit.
    • The condition is present for more than 125 ms.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM disables the rear compartment lid release for the duration of the ignition cycle.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
    • You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the rear compartment lid pull down actuator.
  2. Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate when connected between the trunk release control signal circuit terminal B and ground.
  3. If the test lamp illuminates, test for a short to voltage on the trunk release control signal circuit. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear compartment lid pull down actuator.
