J 41099 Gear Select/Reverse Lockout Solenoid Socket

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 180595  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  4. Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe to muffler bolts.
  5. Tie off the mufflers to the underbody to support out of the way.
  6. Remove the rear transverse spring. Refer to Rear Transverse Spring Replacement .
  7. Disconnect the wiring harness and brake pipe clip retainers from the rear suspension crossmember.
  8. Position a transmission jack under the rear suspension crossmember and firmly secure the crossmember to the jack.
  9. Using ONLY HAND TOOLS, remove the rear suspension crossmember mounting nuts.
  10. Important: Observe the clearance between the driveline and the driveline tunnel closeout panel.

  11. Slowly lower the rear suspension crossmember, along with the attached driveline, approximately 4 cm (1½ in).
  12. Lower the rear suspension crossmember and driveline for access to the reverse lockout solenoid.

  13. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid electrical connector.

  14. Object Number: 71530  Size: SH
  15. Using the J 41099 , remove the reverse lockout solenoid.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Using the J 41099 , install the reverse lockout solenoid.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the reverse lockout solenoid to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  3. Connect the reverse lockout solenoid electrical connector.

  4. Object Number: 180595  Size: SH
  5. Slowly raise the rear suspension crossmember to seat to the vehicle frame rails.
  6. Using ONLY HAND TOOLS, install NEW rear suspension crossmember mounting nuts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the rear suspension crossmember mounting nuts to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  8. Remove the transmission jack from the rear suspension crossmember.
  9. Connect the wiring harness and brake pipe clip retainers to the rear suspension crossmember.
  10. Install the rear transverse spring. Refer to Rear Transverse Spring Replacement .
  11. Remove the tie-off retainers from the muffler assemblies.
  12. Install the intermediate exhaust pipe to muffler bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the intermediate exhaust pipe to muffler bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  14. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  18. Program the transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming .
