J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
- Remove the radiator support. Refer to
Radiator Support Replacement.
Important: Prior to removal, take note of the A/C compressor hose assembly routing and orientation between the compressor and condenser.
Cap or tape off the open A/C components immediately to prevent system contamination.
- Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly bolt from the A/C condenser fitting.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor hose assembly from the A/C condenser fitting.
- Remove and discard the sealing washer.
- Cap or tape off the A/C condenser fitting.
- Disconnect and remove the A/C tube connector from the evaporator outlet tube and A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to
Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
- Disconnect the evaporator outlet tube from the A/C compressor hose assembly.
- Cap or tape off the evaporator outlet tube.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation+.
- For the 7.0L only, remove the compressor mounting bolts and nuts and lower the compressor. Refer to
Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement.
- Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly to A/C compressor retaining bolt.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor hose assembly from the A/C compressor.
- Remove and discard the sealing washers.
- Cap or tape off the A/C compressor.
- Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the A/C compressor hose assembly to the vehicle.
- Remove cap or tape from the A/C compressor.
- Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to
Sealing Washer Replacement .
- Connect the A/C compressor hose assembly to the A/C compressor.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the A/C compressor hose assembly to A/C compressor retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- For the 7.0L only, reposition the compressor and install the bolts and nuts. Refer to
Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement.
- Install the right front tire and wheel assembly to the vehicle. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove cap or tape from the evaporator outlet tube.
- Install a new O-rings onto the evaporator outlet tube. Refer to
O-Ring Replacement .
- Connect the evaporator outlet tube to the A/C compressor hose assembly.
- Install the A/C tube connector to the evaporator outlet tube and A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to
Air Conditioning Line/Tube Connector Removal/Replacement .
- Remove cap or tape from the A/C condenser fitting.
- Install a new sealing washer onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to
Sealing Washer Replacement .
- Connect the A/C compressor hose assembly to the A/C condenser fitting.
- Install the A/C compressor hose assembly bolt to the A/C condenser fitting.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the radiator support. Refer to
Radiator Support Replacement.
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
- Leak test the fittings of the component using
J 39400-A .
