J 38185 Spring Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the air conditioning (A/C) system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  3. Remove the rear evaporator line assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Rear Tube Replacement .
  4. Release and reposition the heater inlet and outlet hose clamps using the J 38185 .
  5. Important: Cap or plug the cooling components to prevent system contamination.

  6. Separate the heater hoses from heater pipes.
  7. Cap or plug the open heater hoses.

  9. Remove the heater pipe assembly to heater core retaining bolt (1).
  10. Notice: Do not apply excessive force on the heater core pipes during hose removal. Applying excessive force on the heater core pipes may damage the heater core pipes.

  11. Disconnect the heater pipe assembly from the heater pipe bracket retainer.

  13. Disconnect the heater pipe assembly from the heater core.
  14. Remove the heater pipe assembly from the vehicle.
  15. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
  16. Cap or plug the heater core.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1218464  Size: SH
  1. Remove the cap or plug from the heater core.
  2. Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing surfaces of the heater pipe assembly and the heater core.
  3. Lightly coat the new seal washers with coolant.
  4. Carefully slide the new sealing washers onto the heater pipe assembly until properly seated.
  5. Install the heater pipe assembly into position in the vehicle.
  6. Install the heater pipe assembly to the heater core.
  7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  8. Install the heater pipe assembly retaining bolt (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  10. Remove cap or plug from the heater hoses.
  11. Connect heater inlet and outlet hoses to the heater pipe assembly.
  12. Install the heater hose clamps into position using the J 38185 .
  13. Install the rear evaporator line assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Rear Tube Replacement .
  14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
