Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 6.2L
Removal Procedure
- Open the hood.
- Remove the oil fill cap.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the oil pan drain plug (3).
- Drain the engine oil into an appropriate container.
- Remove the engine oil filter (1) from the engine block (2).
Installation Procedure
Important: Before installing the new oil filter, ensure that the old oil filter seal has been removed. If not, removed the old seal.
- Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the oil filter (2) to the engine block (1).
Tighten
Tighten the engine oil filter to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the oil pan drain plug (3).
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
Important: DO NOT use any engine oil additives in Corvette engines.
- Fill the engine with the appropriate amount and type of engine oil. Refer to
Approximate Fluid Capacities and
Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
- Check the oil level.
- Install the oil fill cap.
- Close the hood.
- Reset the engine oil life monitor. Refer to
GM Oil Life System Resetting .

Removal Procedure
- Open the hood.
- Remove the oil fill cap (2).
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove both oil pan drain plugs.
- Drain the engine oil into an appropriate container.
- Remove the engine oil filter.
Installation Procedure
Important: Before installing the new oil filter, ensure that the old oil filter seal has been removed. If not, remove the old seal.
- Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the oil filter to the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the engine oil filter to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install both oil pan drain plugs.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan drain plugs to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
Important: DO NOT use any engine oil additives in Corvette engines.
- Add 7.6 liters (8 quarts) of oil to the dry sump tank. Refer to
Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations
for engine oil requirements.
- Check the oil level.
- Install the oil fill cap (2).
- Start the engine, check for leaks and correct.
- Shut the engine off, wait 2-5 minutes and check the oil level using the oil level indicator (1). Add oil if needed to bring the oil level to the full mark.
- Close the hood.
- Reset the engine oil life system. Refer to
GM Oil Life System Resetting
