Preliminary Procedures
Caution: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current.
In order to reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns, the battery negative
cable must be disconnected any time service work is being performed on or
around the high intensity discharge system.
Caution: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current.
To reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns:
• | Never open the high intensity discharge system ballast or the
arc tube assembly starter. |
• | Never probe between the high intensity discharge system ballast
output connector and the arc tube assembly. |
- Open the hood.
- Remove the six upper fender flange bolts from the side the headlamp is being serviced from.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

- Remove the front wheelhouse liner. Refer to
Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
.
- Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to
Front Bumper Fascia Replacement
.
- Remove the three lower headlamp nuts from the front wheelhouse panel.
- Disconnect the headlamp electrical connectors from the headlamp.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Lift the front corner of the fender and raise the fender approximately two inches, enough to lift upward on the headlamp and release the studs from the wheelhouse panel in order to remove the headlamp from the vehicle.
