Transmission Case


    Object Number: 1938414  Size: SH
  1. Install the 1st/2nd and the 3rd/4th shift shaft bushings. Use J 36190 and J 39439-3 .

  2. Object Number: 38373  Size: SH
  3. Install the mainshaft bearing race, using the J 8092 and the J 39435 .

  4. Object Number: 38372  Size: SH
  5. Install the countershaft bearing race, using the J 8092 and the J 39435 .

  6. Object Number: 38365  Size: SH
  7. Install the dowel pins.

  8. Object Number: 1938438  Size: SH
  9. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the threads of the reverse lamp switch.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  11. Install the reverse lamp switch.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the switch to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  13. Install the coolant temperature sensor.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the sensor to 39 N·m (29 lb ft).

  15. Install the transmission case cooler line return fitting.

  16. Object Number: 408230  Size: SH

    Notice: The H-pattern on the guide plate must face the extension housing. If the guide plate is installed incorrectly, then damage will occur.

  17. Install the guide plate and the guide plate bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 Ib ft).

Adapter Plate

  1. Install the check ball (3).
  2. Install the spring (2).
  3. Install the plug (1).

  5. Install the oil pump (3).
  6. Install the oil pump cover assembly (2).
  7. Install the retainer ring (1).

  8. Object Number: 1887604  Size: SH
  9. Install the dowel pins.

  10. Object Number: 1887606  Size: SH

    Notice: If the 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th speed shift shaft bushing is installed incorrectly it will interfere with the inner shift rail seal causing a leak.

  11. Install the 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th speed shift shaft bushing flush with adapter plate, using the J 39439-3  (2) and J 36190  (1).

  13. Load the inner seal (1) and the outer seal (2) onto J 42496 .
  14. Install the shift rail seal (1 and 2) using J 42496 .

  16. Install the input shaft seal, using the J 39433 .

  18. Install the countershaft bearing shim and bearing race. Refer to Input Shaft, Mainshaft and Countershaft in Shimming Procedures.

  20. Install the input shaft bearing shim and bearing race. Refer to Input Shaft, Mainshaft and Countershaft in Shimming Procedures.

  21. Object Number: 1998735  Size: SH
  22. Install the adapter plate pump plug (3).
  23. Install the pump outlet cooler fitting seal (2) and fitting (1).

  24. Object Number: 1938441  Size: SH
  25. Attach J 36017 within the groove at the base of the oil filter assembly. Slide the collar of the tool down to grasp the oil filter assembly.
  26. Place the oil filter assembly with J 36017  (2) attached onto the adapter plate.
  27. Using J 39442  (1), tap the oil filter assembly into place with a hammer. Remove J 36017  (2).
