1. Memory recall is inoperative

Circuit/System Description

The memory seat switches are normally open and are wired to the driver door switch assembly (DDSA). When a memory recall switch is pressed, the switch pulls the 5 V signal circuit from the DDSA to ground. The DDSA senses that a memory recall signal was pulled low and a serial data message is sent to the memory seat module (MSM) identifying the memory request. The MSM responds to the request by commanding the driver seat to move to the preset positions.

Diagnostic Aids

The memory seat module is also referred to as the Driver Position Module in certain scan tool menus.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the memory seat switch.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal C and the ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Memory Recall Switches parameter is Idle.
  5. If not the specified value, test the appropriate signal circuit listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.
    • Memory 1 terminal A
    • Memory 2 terminal B
  6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and ground. Verify the scan tool Memory Recall Switches parameter is Memory 1.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.
  8. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and ground. Verify the scan tool Memory Recall Switches parameter is Memory 2.
  9. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the DDSA.
  10. Install 3 A fused jumper wires between both signal circuit terminals listed below and ground. Verify the scan tool Memory Recall Switches parameter is Exit.
  11. • Memory 1 terminal A
    • Memory 2 terminal B
If not the specified value, replace the DDSA.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the memory seat adjuster switch.

Component Testing

Memory Seat Adjuster Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the memory seat adjuster switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the ground terminal C and the signal terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
  3. • Memory 1 terminal A
    • Memory 2 terminal B
If not the specified value, replace the seat adjuster switch.
  4. Test for less than 1 Ω between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal C with the memory 1 switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the memory seat adjuster switch.
  6. Test for less than 1 Ω between the signal terminal A and the ground terminal C with the EXIT switch in the closed position.
  7. If greater than the specified range, replace the memory seat adjuster switch.
  8. Test for less than 1 Ω between the signal terminal B and the ground terminal C with the memory 2 switch in the closed position.
  9. If greater than the specified range, replace the memory seat adjuster switch.
  10. Test for less than 1 Ω between the signal terminal B and the ground terminal C with the EXIT switch in the closed position.
  11. If greater than the specified range, replace the memory seat adjuster switch.
