Subject:Power Folding Roof May Not Fully Retract or Falls Short of Header When Raised

Models:2005-2008 Chevrolet Corvette Equipped with Power Convertible Roof RPO CM7 Only

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that their convertible roof is inoperative or appears to be misaligned. Further as the roof travels to a closed position, it may appear that is falls short of the header latch and when stowing, it will not fully retract into the rear compartment. This could be the result of a misaligned roof linkage. This linkage is difficult to diagnose and isolate due to its shape. Below are areas and images of areas that may cause this concern.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Below are 4 common areas that may be a concern.

  1. Page 043: The number one reason is the Tonneau hinge the next is bracket #27. The ball studs get bent and the Tonneau will not stay up. This part is usually the first one that gets replaced.

  2. Object Number: 1999112 Size: SH
  3. Page 041, link #8 When the owners try to put the top down without relieving pressure this is the first link to bend. Unfortunately you can not tell because it has a number of bends in it by design and so there isn't anything to look for. Order a new part and lay them side to side to determine if the part is bent.

  4. Object Number: 1999110 Size: SH
  5. Page 042, item 5, this will bend in the center, again hard to tell unless compared to a known good part.

  6. Object Number: 1999111 Size: SH
  7. Page 043, item 10, The bracket will bend out so it is no longer flat and straight. When it does it throws the entire top out of alignment. The bracket has a net mounting hole so if it has been altered, the bracket or the hole will be pretty visible.

  8. Object Number: 1999112 Size: SH

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
