Subject: | Squeak Noise From Under Vehicle During Right Hand Turns |
Models: | 2008 Chevrolet Corvette |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment of a squeak noise from under the vehicle. Noise may occur on right hand turns and parking lot maneuvers. This noise may be the result of the exhaust hanger springs that support the dual sections of exhaust squeaking under the vehicle. These springs are a cylindrical type spring with two bars that run down the center of the springs coil. These bars may contact the inner coils of the spring and induce a squeak noise.
Inspect the exhaust springs in the image below for witness marks within the spring itself and where it connects to the exhaust. After the exhaust has cooled, jouncing or shaking the exhaust by hand can induce this noise on a hoist to help isolate the noise. Use an anti-seize lubricant on all witness marks or were noise is generating and re-evaluate. If there was no change to the noise or the vehicle has a repeat concern, replace the springs as necessary.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
