Subject:Intermittent Flutter or Rumble Noise From Engine Compartment At 550 RPM's

Models:2007-2008 Chevrolet Corvette Equipped with Automatic Transmission Only



The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment of a flutter or rumble noise at idle, in gear around 550rpm from the engine compartment. This will typically occur on vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and when the engine is at normal operating temperatures. This noise is random however turning the A/C on and/or turning the steering wheel and holding at left or right lock positions may make the noise more repeatable. Visual inspection will reveal more accessory drive belt tensioner flutter when compared to a like vehicle.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Compare noise and drive belt tensioner flutter to a known good vehicle. If comparable, no repairs are recommended.
  2. Reference bulletin 08-06-01-008 to verify drive belt and accessories are aligned.
  3. If the drive belt tensioner flutter is greater than on the comparable vehicle, replace the generator with current SPO stock and re-evaluate this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
