Radiator Replacement LS3, LS7

Special Tools

    • J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers
    • J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  3. Remove the condenser. Refer to Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement.
  4. Disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .

  6. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  7. Note: Lift up on the cooling fan and shroud assembly to disengage the tabs from the radiator slots.

  8. Remove the cooling fan and shroud assembly from the radiator. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement.

  10. Disengage tension and reposition the surge tank inlet hose clamp at the radiator.
  11. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator.
  12. Vehicles equipped with a transmission oil cooler, disconnect the upper transmission oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.
  13. Vehicles equipped with a engine oil cooler, disconnect the upper engine oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.
  14. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  16. Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp at the radiator using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
  17. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
  18. Vehicles equipped with a transmission oil cooler, disconnect the lower transmission oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.
  19. Vehicles equipped a with engine oil cooler, disconnect the lower engine oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.
  20. Remove the radiator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator to the vehicle.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Vehicles equipped with a engine oil cooler, connect the lower engine oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.
  4. Vehicles equipped with a transmission oil cooler, connect the lower transmission oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.

  6. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  7. Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp at the radiator.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Vehicle equipped with a transmission oil cooler, connect the upper transmission oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.
  10. Vehicles equipped with a engine oil cooler, connect the upper engine oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.

  12. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator.
  13. Engage tension on the surge tank inlet hose clamp at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
  14. Note: Lift up on the cooling fan and shroud assembly and engage the tabs to the radiator slots.

  15. Install the cooling fan and shroud assembly to the radiator. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement.

  17. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  18. Engage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp at the radiator using J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
  19. Install the condenser. Refer to Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement.
  20. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  21. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  22. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector .
  23. Inspect the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check.

Radiator Replacement LS9

Special Tools

    • J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers
    • J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  3. Remove the condenser. Refer to Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement.

  5. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose quick connect fitting (1) at the radiator.
  6. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  7. Note: Lift up on the cooling fan and shroud assembly to disengage the tabs from the radiator slots.

  8. Remove the cooling fan and shroud assembly from the radiator. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement.

  10. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose quick connect fitting (1) from the radiator.
  11. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose (2) from the radiator.
  12. Vehicles equipped with a transmission oil cooler, disconnect the upper transmission oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.
  13. Vehicles equipped with a engine oil cooler, disconnect the upper engine oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.
  14. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  16. Disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (1) at the radiator using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
  17. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose (2) from the radiator.
  18. Vehicles equipped with a transmission oil cooler, disconnect the lower transmission oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.
  19. Vehicles equipped a with engine oil cooler, disconnect the lower engine oil cooler line from the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.
  20. Remove the radiator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator to the vehicle.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Vehicles equipped with a engine oil cooler, connect the lower engine oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.
  4. Vehicles equipped with a transmission oil cooler, connect the lower transmission oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.

  6. Connect the radiator outlet hose (2) to the radiator.
  7. Engage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp (2) at the radiator.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Vehicle equipped with a transmission oil cooler, connect the upper transmission oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection.
  10. Vehicles equipped with a engine oil cooler, connect the upper engine oil cooler line to the radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement.

  12. Connect the surge tank inlet hose (2) to the radiator.
  13. Connect the surge tank inlet hose quick connect fitting (1) from the radiator.
  14. Note: Lift up on the cooling fan and shroud assembly and engage the tabs to the radiator slots.

  15. Install the cooling fan and shroud assembly to the radiator. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement.

  17. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  18. Connect the radiator inlet hose quick connect fitting (1) at the radiator.
  19. Install the condenser. Refer to Air Conditioning Condenser Replacement.
  20. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  21. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  22. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector .
  23. Inspect the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check.
