Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose/Pipe Replacement LS3, LS7

Special Tools

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
2. Remove the radiator support. Refer to Radiator Support Replacement.



3. Disengage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the surge tank using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
4. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose (2) from the surge tank.




Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose assembly from the support tabs (1) on the cooling fan shroud.




6. Disengage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the water pump.
7. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose (2) from the water pump.
8. Using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers , disengage the tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly.
9. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose from the heater pipe assembly.
10. Remove the surge tank outlet hose assembly from the vehicle.

Note: Lubricate the inside diameters of the hoses with clean coolant prior to installation.




1. Install the surge tank outlet hose assembly to the vehicle.
2. Connect the surge tank outlet hose to the heater pipe assembly.
3. Using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers , engage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly.
4. Connect the surge tank outlet hose (2) to the water pump.
5. Using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers , engage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the water pump.



6. Connect the surge tank outlet hose assembly (1) to the support tabs on the cooling fan shroud.



7. Connect the surge tank outlet hose (2) to the surge tank.
8. Engage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the surge tank using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
9. Install the radiator support. Refer to Radiator Support Replacement.
10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.



2. Disengage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the surge tank using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
3. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose (2) from the surge tank.




Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose assembly from the support tabs (1) on the cooling fan shroud.




5. Disengage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the water pump.
6. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose (2) from the water pump.
7. Using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers , disengage the tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly.
8. Disconnect the surge tank outlet hose from the heater pipe assembly.
9. Remove the surge tank outlet hose assembly from the vehicle.

Note: Lubricate the inside diameters of the hoses with clean coolant prior to installation.




1. Install the surge tank outlet hose assembly to the vehicle.
2. Connect the surge tank outlet hose to the heater pipe assembly.
3. Using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers , engage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the heater pipe assembly.
4. Connect the surge tank outlet hose (2) to the water pump.
5. Using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers , engage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the water pump.



6. Connect the surge tank outlet hose assembly (1) to the support tabs on the cooling fan shroud.



7. Connect the surge tank outlet hose (2) to the surge tank.
8. Engage tension on the surge tank outlet hose clamp (1) at the surge tank using the J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers .
9. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
