Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the crankcase ventilation hoses/pipes. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement.
  2. Remove the ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Fastener (Qty: 4)

Caution: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
12 N·m (106 lb in)

Valve Rocker Arm Cover

Procedure

  1. Disconnect any electrical connectors.
  2. Transfer components as necessary.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side Without ls9

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 697216 Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine sight cover. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement.
  2. Remove the crankcase ventilation hoses/pipes. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement.
  3. Remove the ignition coil assembly.

    4. Object Number: 260084 Size: SH
  4. Loosen the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
  5. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.

    6. Object Number: 490696 Size: SH
  6. Remove the gasket (1) from the rocker cover. Discard the OLD gasket.

Installation Procedure

Note: 

   â€¢ All gasket surfaces should be free of oil and other foreign material during assembly.
   â€¢ DO NOT reuse the valve rocker arm cover gasket.
   â€¢ The valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets may be reused.


    Object Number: 490696 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW gasket (1) into the valve rocker cover lip.

    2. Object Number: 260084 Size: SH
  2. Install the valve rocker arm cover onto the cylinder head.

    3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Tighten the rocker arm cover bolts.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  4. Install the oil fill tube into the rocker arm cover.

    5. Object Number: 697216 Size: SH
  5. Install the ignition coil assembly.
  6. Install the crankcase ventilation hoses/pipes. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement.
  7. Install the engine sight cover. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement.
