Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Drain the rear axle. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement.
  3. Remove the rear mufflers.
  4. • For the left rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Left Side.
    • For the right rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Right Side.
  5. Remove the cooler inlet pipe. Refer to Differential Oil Pump Inlet Hose Replacement.
  6. Remove the cooler outlet pipe. Refer to Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose Replacement.

  7. Object Number: 1696853  Size: SH

    Note: Note the location of the cover rear bolt/stud for assembly and the alignment of the outshaft of the differential and the input shaft for the pump.

  8. Remove the mounting bolts  (3) for the differential cooler pump (4).
  9. Remove the differential cooler pump (4).
  10. Remove the gasket (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1696853  Size: SH
  1. Install the gasket (1).
  2. Note: Note the alignment of the pinion shaft and input shaft of the pump. If the shafts do not line up, rotate the input shaft for the pump. If they are not aligned properly, the pump will not be seated correctly in the differential housing. Also, note the location of the bolt/stud for the proper installation.

  3. Install the differential cooler pump (4).
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Install the retaining bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the differential cooler mounting bolts (3) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the cooler outlet pipe. Refer to Differential Oil Pump Inlet Hose Replacement.
  8. Install the cooler inlet pipe. Refer to Differential Oil Cooler Inlet Hose Replacement.
  9. Install the rear mufflers.
  10. • For the left rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Left Side.
    • For the right rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Right Side.
  11. Fill the differential assembly. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
