Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Steering Shaft Upper Bearing Spring Replacement Manual

    • J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to SIR Warning in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 293252  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Note: Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.

  3. Remove the SIR coil from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement.
  4. Remove the wave washer (1) from the steering shaft assembly (2).

  5. Object Number: 338052  Size: SH
  6. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
  7. Remove the bearing retainer from the steering shaft assembly.
  8. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
  9. Dispose of the bearing retainer.

  10. Object Number: 318239  Size: SH
  11. Remove the following from the steering shaft:
  12. 8.1. Shaft lock shield (5)
    8.2. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
    8.3. Upper bearing spring (3)
    8.4. Upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    8.5. Inner race (1)

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 330130  Size: SH
  1. Install the following to the steering shaft:
  2. 1.1. Inner race (1)
    1.2. Upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    1.3. Upper bearing spring (3)
    1.4. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
    1.5. Shaft lock shield (5)

    Object Number: 338052  Size: SH

    Note: The bearing retainer must be properly seated into the groove on the steering shaft.

  3. Install a new bearing retainer onto the steering shaft assembly.
  4. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 to install the bearing retainer.
  5. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 from the steering shaft assembly.

  6. Object Number: 293252  Size: SH
  7. Install the wave washer (1) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
  8. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.

    • J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

Removal Procedure

  6. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
  7. Remove the bearing retainer from the steering shaft assembly.
  8. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .
  9. Dispose of the bearing retainer.

  10. Object Number: 318239  Size: SH
  11. Remove the following from the steering shaft:
  12. 8.1. Shaft lock shield (5)
    8.2. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
    8.3. Upper bearing spring (3)
    8.4. Upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    8.5. Inner race (1)

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the following to the steering shaft:
  2. 1.1. Inner race (1)
    1.2. Upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    1.3. Upper bearing spring (3)
    1.4. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
    1.5. Shaft lock shield (5)

    Object Number: 338052  Size: SH

    Note: The bearing retainer must be properly seated into the groove on the steering shaft.

  3. Install a new bearing retainer onto the steering shaft assembly.
  4. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 to install the bearing retainer.
  5. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 from the steering shaft assembly.

  7. Install the wave washer (1) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
  8. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
