Rear Brake Hose Replacement JL9, J55

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

Brake Pipe Fitting

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
18 N·m (13 lb ft)

Procedure

Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

Brake Hose

Brake Hose Fitting Bolt

Tighten
40 N·m (30 lb ft)

Brake Hose Fitting Gasket (Qty: 2)

Procedure

  1. Discard the brake hose fitting gaskets.
  2. Install new brake hose fitting gaskets.

Brake Hose

Procedure

After the installation is complete, bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.

Brake Pipe Fitting

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent fluid leakage and contamination.

Tighten
18 N·m (13 lb ft)

Tighten
40 N·m (30 lb ft)

Brake Hose Fitting Gasket (Qty: 2)

Procedure

  1. Discard the brake hose fitting gaskets.
  2. Install new brake hose fitting gaskets.

Brake Hose

Procedure

After the installation is complete, bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Caution: Disc brake rotor protectors MUST be installed prior to tire and wheel assembly removal to avoid ceramic brake rotor damage due to contact between the tire and wheel assembly and the rotor. If the ceramic brake rotor is damaged replacement may be required.

  3. Install the disc brake rotor protectors and remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  4. Object Number: 2146916  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake hose fitting bolt (1).
  6. Note: Do not reuse the brake hose fitting gaskets.

  7. Remove and discard the brake hose fitting gaskets (2) from the brake hose (3).

  8. Object Number: 2146925  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting (1).
  10. Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.


    Object Number: 2164631  Size: SH
  11. Remove the brake hose bracket bolt (1) and the brake hose.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 2164631  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake hose and the brake hose bracket bolt (1) and tighten to  10 N·m (89 lb in).

  2. Object Number: 2146925  Size: SH
  3. Connect the brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten to  18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  4. Object Number: 2146916  Size: SH
  5. Assemble the brake hose fitting bolt (1) and 2 new brake hose fitting gaskets (2) to the brake hose (3).
  6. Install the brake hose assembly to the caliper and tighten the brake hose fitting bolt to  40 N·m (30 lb ft).
  7. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly and remove the disc brake rotor protectors. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
