Coolant Pump Replacement 2.0L

1. Drain the engine cooling system to a level below the thermostat housing. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
2. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-2.0L.
3. Remove the timing belt tension roller retaining bolt.
4. Remove the timing belt tension roller.



5. Remove the coolant pump mounting bolts.
6. Remove the coolant pump from the engine block.
7. Remove the ring seal from the coolant pump.
8. Clean and inspect the coolant pump. Refer to Coolant Pump Cleaning and Inspection .

1. Install a new ring seal to the coolant pump.
2. Coat the sealing surface of the ring seal with lubriplate.
3. Install the coolant pump to the engine block with the flange aligned with the recess of the rear timing belt cover.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

4. Secure the coolant pump to the engine block with the mounting blocks.

Tighten
Tighten the coolant pump mounting bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).




5. Install the timing belt tension roller to the oil pump with the flange inserted into the recess of the oil pump.
6. Install the timing belt tension roller bolt. Do not tighten the bolt at this time.
7. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-2.0L.
8. Refill the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Coolant Pump Replacement 2.5L

1. Drain the engine cooling system to a level below the thermostat housing. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement in Power Steering System.



3. Loosen the hose clamp on the coolant hose at the thermostat housing and the coolant pump.
4. Disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing and the coolant pump.



5. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts.
6. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
7. Remove the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement



8. Remove the bracket bolts.



9. Remove the auto tensioner bolt.
10. Remove the auto tensioner.



11. Remove the coolant pump mounting bolts.
12. Remove the coolant pump.
13. Remove the coolant pump gasket.
14. Inspect the water pump body for cracks and leaks.
15. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and the engine block.

1. Install a new gasket to the coolant pump.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Secure the coolant pump to the engine block with the mounting blocks.

Tighten
Tighten the coolant pump mounting bolts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).




3. Install an auto tensioner with the mounting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the auto tensioner bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).




4. Install the bracket.
5. Install the bracket bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bracket bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).




6. Install the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
7. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
8. Install the power steering pump.
9. Install the power steering pump bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




10. Install the power steering pump drive bolt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement in Power Steering System.
11. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
