Circuit Description

The speed sensitive power steering (SSPS) control module controls the operation of the SSPS warning lamp. When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the SSPS control module turns ON the SSPS warning lamp for 3 seconds for a bulb check. Whenever a malfunction is detected within the VES system, the SSPS control module turns ON the SSPS warning lamp, notifying the driver that VES needs to be serviced.

Diagnostic Aids

Thoroughly inspect the wiring and the connectors. An incomplete inspection of the wiring and the connectors may result in a misdiagnosis, causing a part replacement with the reappearance of the malfunction.

The following are possible causes of the malfunction:

    • A short to ground in the SSPS warning lamp control circuit.
    • An internal SSPS control module malfunction.
    • An internal instrument cluster malfunction.

If an intermittent malfunction exists, refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
