Subject: | Air Bag (SIR) Clock Spring Adapter Harness |
Models: | 2004 Chevrolet Epica, Optra |
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform the technician about the air bag clock spring adapter harness that may be found in this vehicle.
On some vehicles, the clock spring electrical harness had two connections reversed during manufacturing. As a result, an adapter harness was placed in-line with the driver side air bag clock spring. The adapter harness is inserted between the clock spring harness and the main wiring harness connectors. It is located at the base of the steering column with an attached warning label and wrapped with foam tape.
Important: If the technician sees this adapter harness while diagnosing the air bag, or replacing the main electrical harness, then the adapter harness should be left in place in the vehicle. If the technician is replacing the clock spring, then the adapter harness should be removed along with the original clock spring. The new clock spring does not require the adapter harness.
